Euthanasia means “good death” in Greek, and has been traced all the way back to 500 BC (Dowbiggin). This proves that humans have been choosing their death for many years. Most people, whether they are for or against, have strong feelings about physicians-assisted suicide. One reason people are for euthanasia is that they understand that euthanasia is binging people to rest that are terminally ill. People everywhere be ending their lives on a whim. Depression is an illness without a doubt, but it is not a good reason to end a life. Health care cost containment is another problem associated with euthanasia. Euthanasia should not be legal for everyone. People shouldn’t be able to be euthanized just because they are depressed. Reasonable restrictions and compromises can be made to keep both sides of this dilemma content. Compromise doesn’t always work well, but one may be put in place that will work out for both sides. Physician’s assisted suicide should be legal, but only for terminally ill people that are unable to cope with life. Euthanasia won’t cost more than it is worth because a lethal injection is about $100.00 and extensive medical treatments cost thousands of dollars (Hall). Compromise won’t cause other problems because it will reduce horrifying and traumatic suicides. With these rules and regulations suicide contagion will not be a thing. Before Doctors can legally talk to or recommend euthanasia the patient needs to be diagnosed with a deadly disease and an estimated time frame of death without possibility of getting better. The decision will always be left to the patient, but they can only go through with euthanasia if eligible. If doctors try to convince patients to do euthanasia because it is more cost efficient than any other medical treatment the doctor would be going against his or her oath to help their patients and even then the patients would still have the final choice. If euthanasia becomes legal
