Medicine has to be ever changing to deal with the health issues that arise the world's medical system is not perfect. People all over the world suffer from diseases and are terminally ill. Instead of going through treatments that might work or waiting for a cure that may not come before they die. People choose to take matters into their own hands and decide to die with help of a physician, but many ill patients and doctors are criminalized for actions such as these. The drawbacks and benefits of physician assisted suicide should be examined and what it would take to decriminalize it. Physician assisted suicide should be decriminalized because, from an ethical and economic perspective, those with terminal diseases have a right to choose death. Are administering a shot or prescribing a drug that they know will intentionally kill someone. In the U.S, while 53% of doctors said they received comfort by helping a patient with euthanasia, 24%said said they regretted it,and 16%said it affected their practice,however very few of them felt uncomfortable giving the prescription or injection. This shows that the regret could come from taking part in a patient's death,not the euthanasia itself. (Steavens). It is believed that euthanasia can help the family. This can happen by understanding that the sickness taking their loved one and hurting them will be taken away when they pass. This can help the family come to terms, grieve, and find closure with the whole ordeal.
