Mission and Vision Statement The mission statement defines an action-based statement that declares the purpose of an organization and how they serve their customers. In some cases, it includes the description of the company. A mission statement gives a short summary of the company’s purpose. The vision statement gives the direction in which the company desires to achieve in the long run.
The SCSO’s mission comprises to protect the lives and property of the citizens of Shelby County Tennessee. Also the mission remains to preserve the peace; sustain a safe and protected jail and to stop crime and chaos while continually defending personal liberties as proposed by law. This must be done with honor and integrity, while showing ourselves by the highest fiscal and ethical standard to preserve community trust (http://sheriff411.org/NavigationPage/aspx).
It is the duty of a law enforcement agency to serve the community within its jurisdiction. There are several ways a department serves a community; the goals and core beliefs are usually outlined in the department’s mission and value statements (Gaines 2012). The mission statement of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office focuses on four core values. The ability to enforce the law fairly, commitment to professionalism, service to the community with integrity and trust, and obligation to the duty with honor and pride. The ACSO responded to the issue in a letter by offering proactive patrols and cited their core values in the conclusion of the letter.
According to Business Dictionary, a mission statement is “a written declaration of an organization’s core purpose and focus that normally remains unchanged overtime. Properly crafted mission statements serve as filters to separate what is important from what is not, clearly state which markets will be served and how, and communicate a sense of intended direction to the entire organization” (Business Dictionary.com, 2016). Before anything else it is important to state the main difference between a vision and a mission. " A mission is different from a vision in that the former is the cause and the latter is the effect; while a mission is something to be accomplished whereas a vision is something to be pursued for that accomplishment” (Business
For this assignment the mission statements of the Knoxville (TN) Police department (KPD) and the Cincinnati (OH) Police Department (CPD) were obtained from their respective websites. The mission statement of the Cincinnati Police Department (2015) states that their mission is to, “… develop personnel and manage resources to promote effective partnerships with the community to improve the quality of life through the delivery of fair and impartial police services while maintaining an atmosphere of respect for human dignity.” They also have their core values included on their website. CPD lists its core values as integrity, professionalism, diversity, accountability, and vigilance (Cincinnati Police Department, 2015).
A police officer is an employee of the government who has been given the duty to enforce the law by maintaining order and arresting lawbreakers. If I were to go into law enforcement then I would like to be the Social Agent, since the major duty of the police is to serve and protect the public; hence, I would be willing to combine with other typologies (Patterson, 2014). Actually, it is useful to have these typologies, as it will ensure that the public and the police officers get to understand that police officers can be different but their main aim is to serve the same purpose. The following are the reason why I feel it is good to have the typologies Typologies will enable me to create a good relationship to all people that includes both the
Furthermore, the New York City Police Department addresses many other issues, relating to traffic violations, missing person investigations, counterterrorism or established methods to create solutions to problems which communities face, periodically. Therefore, as Hatry mentions, a mission/objective statement is meant to portray and highlight purposes programs or agencies exist and through the NYPD’s mission statement it is evident because safety and security are a priority. (Hatry, p. 39) Our cities, towns and our nation deserve a prosperous future. Therefore, NYPD officers continue to fight crime and uphold to their duties while maintaining confederation and

In the state of New Mexico, ninety-four judges, preside. There are thirteen different districts. These are courts of general jurisdiction, which hold jury trials. The 11th judicial court in Aztec is where I decided to complete my ten hours of service learning hours. The judicial court will hear these types of cases: Tort, contract, real property rights, and estate.
They have to gather knowledge of the crimes in the area and what the underlying causes of the social problems is. They must create a plan that works to deter crime, and assess the progress of those plans to see if it works or what needs to be changed. Because it is still a newer approach, all departments should (if they already haven’t), create a community policing division that focuses on what is going on in their community around them. Officers need to build trust between themselves and the communities they serve; which means, responding to the calls that are considered “non-emergency. This will help the community not only build trust, but hold the officers more accountable.
The mission statement to "Serve and Protect" is not sufficient enough to be considered a valid mission statement. We all know that a police officer’s job is to serve its community and protect those that live in the community. A valid mission statement should encompass what the department stands for, why they exist, and what their purpose is in the community they serve (Miller, Hess, & Orthmann, 2014). Mission statements are valuable for a police department. They can serve as a "road map" for the department.
“The mission of the Houston Police Departments duty is to enhance the life in the city of Houston by working cooperatively with the public and within the framework of the U.S. Constitution to enforce the laws, preserve the peace, reduce fear and provide for a safe environment” (“Police Department Mission Statement”). Police cars can be easily seen in your area due to the obvious logo across both sides in bold letters reading the words police (Figure1). However, the Houston police department has other patrol vehicles that are unmarked. These unmarked vehicles appear to just be a regular everyday normal vehicle. Although these vehicles might look normal they possess the same authority of a regular police car.
Mission statements are typically future focused and are not essentially constructed on present-day. They should be a reasonable viewpoint from which to look down the road. These statements should not bound the development of the organization’s premises through incorrect
In the world of law enforcement, there are known increased exposure to dangerous situations. As a police officer, I have an increased exposure to criminals on a daily basis throughout my assigned shift. I rely on my training when faced with a situation where those levels of danger increase. In addition, I wear a kevlar vest to protect my major organs in the event of a shooting, I practice weapon retention, draw, as well as target practice for instances when I may need to use or protect my firearm in the event of an altercation. In order to reduce the level of danger, I would need to leave law enforcement.
