The subject of animal experimentation is an on-going debate that many argue about today. There are a variety of animals that are commonly used for biomedical research such as mice, rats, birds, dogs, cats, etc. Many different research is used for testing, breeding, defense research, and toxicology, including cosmetics testing. There are legitimate reasons for both sides of this argument, of whether it is okay to use animals to test human products, but when do the pros outweigh the cons? Or vice versa?
Many of the opinions for medical experimentations are supportive due to the benefit it can give us as a human race to end diseases and illnesses that are fatal. But as for the opinions on commercial product experimentation, such as make-up and beauty products, are often against the idea due to the fact that the products are for a want and not a need, and are putting animal lives at risk for no real benefit. Pam Nichols, a veterinarian doctor who owns two different animal care clinics and full range dog park that also holds a canine and feline clinic, shares her opinion on the subject of animal experimentation. Dr. Nichols states that she is 100% for testing animals with medical and cosmetic products. She believes that the use of animals testing is very effective due to the close DNA match, and is more efficient time and money wise. The time span for an average human trial can range up to 70 years where as an animal subject experiment averages to around 10 years. The use of these animals not only help us save lives for the future, but they also help save human lives in the present.
