In Best in Class, Margaret Talbot explains how the position of valedictorian should be kept in the school system, though the gravity around holding the position as well as how it is chosen should be changed. She uses logos to appeal to her massively student-based audience, as well as selective presentation to keep focus on her argument, rather than anything else. In her appeal to logos, Talbot mentions how GPAs play a massive part of how a valedictorian is and was chosen. In explaining how important a GPA is, and how weighted classes make it overly easy to get over a 4.0, she sets up a background for why it is becoming so hard to chose valedictorian by grade point average alone.
Margaret talbot ,throughout her piece, shows how students have been focused on getting the title of “Valedictorian” when really it is just causing several issues Talbot uses different rhetorical devices to have a personal connection with her readers and make her argument more credible. The author explains the difficulties in getting valedictorian and the problems that it has with some students who believe they deserve the title. Talbot explains how students who received valedictorian are still academically skilled in college; however, nobody really cares whether or not you got valedictorian. Talbots message appeals to the audience’ s emotions when she shows the amount of stress and work that students put themselves through in order to qualify
In many high schools across the nation, valedictorians are appointed to represent the senior class at graduation. Many people see the valedictorian as the best student in the entire class or maybe just the most popular. Either way, stakes are high when appointing a single student to this position, and much controversy has been discovered as to what qualifies a student to become the one. Academics are generally the aspect that principals consider most when deciding. In “Best in Class,” author Margaret Talbot uses rhetoric devices such as effective quotes and expressive personal anecdote, two assets tied to ethos, to support her claim that appointing a single valedictorian is an unfair custom among U.S. high schools.
Being named the highest academic achiever of anyone in your school is quite the achievement; however, in “Best in Class” by Margaret Talbot, she puts forth the message that the fight for valedictorian is causing much more harm than good. Talbot reinforces this argument through her uses of hard evidence to appeal to ethos and her anecdotal interviews to appeal to pathos. Being one of the strongest parts of her article, Talbot’s use of great amounts of hard evidence strengthens her appeal to ethos. Being a reporter, and a female reporter at that, Talbot must be very careful to avoid using overly-emotional appeals to try and convey her argument. The reporting industry is one in which someone can lose their credibility to critics very quickly
To prepare for graduating high school a high schooler would have needed to work hard throughout the student's entire schooling career. This includes working hard on all of the work that is given
UHP Statement Along the way throughout college, I have noticed what people think when they hear the term “Honors”. I have witnessed people saying “Oh, they are the nerds”, or “Oh, they are the ones that do not have life”. However, I am absolutely sure this is not even close to real meaning of an Honors student. Coming from a different educational background represented a challenge for me when I first came here.
National Honor Society is an organization that gives unrecognized students who are talented a chance to show their achievements. I see this program being very helpful to students, including myself, because it highlights our academic and personal accomplishments and provides many opportunities to those who deserve them. I believe the National Honor Society program represents outstanding high school students to colleges in hopes for them to forward their education and become successful. This would be useful to those who cannot afford to enroll in prestigious schools or organizations.
According to paragraph 15 of the text, "I was with my teacher, and in a while I was going to sit at my desk, with my crayons and pencils and books and classmates all around me, and for the next six hours I was going to enjoy a thoroughly secure, warm, and stable world. " It was a world I absolutely relied on. Without it, I don’t know where I would have gone that morning. She includes this because school was the part of her world that made her feel needed and at peace. She points out the fact that she is lucky to go to a school that makes her feel like she matters because some children do not have the availability to experience
As a sophomore in high school, I have exemplified the four pillars of the National Honor Society. Throughout my high school life, I have maintained an unweighted GPA of 4.0, reflecting my dedication to academic excellence. In addition to my strong academic performance, I have received several Principal's Honor Award certificates, which recognize students who demonstrate exceptional scholarship and character. These achievements are a testament to my commitment to academic success and my passion for learning.

World War I, one of the most devastating conflicts in the history of human civilization, brought tremendous damage not only to the military and those on the front-lines, but the home-front the soldiers fought so hard to protect. With massive technological and weapon advancements, old strategy and methods no longer functioned in the conflict. World War I introduced the concept of total war as the conflict affected the total population. The repercussions were felt globally with food shortages, military occupations, civilian deaths, and the loss of many laborers that had left to fight. The disruption of an age of globalization extended past the end of the war.
Honor codes have been in schools for centuries, and the alumni of many of them have become honorable and respectful people. These honor codes provide stability and some sort of way to punish those students who believe they can get away with anything. This is why honor codes should be maintained to teach students about integrity, values, and helping to foster honesty. Honor codes should be maintained because it teachers students integrity, values, and helps foster honesty. For example, values are inflicted in alumni at a young age, yet some prefer to go the other way and cheat.
Should all high schools in America be replaced by early college high schools? Why there are good reasons for students to go to early college high school, they are not always good reasons. Not all students would excel at early college high schools, school boards would be paying more money, and more students would be more likely to drop out. Early college high schools should be for those students who work hard to achieve the accomplishment of earning an associate degree. Many students joke around and could care less about their education, but at an early college, it is imperative that students care about their school work.
Should an honor student be confined to the same standards that a standard-level student is? No student should have to lower their abilities just because they are not the same as another student. Honor level students should be allowed to thrive and choose the extracurricular activities that apply to them. Extracurricular activity involvement should be left to students and their families, because many students can handle more stress than other students, and they know exactly how much they can handle. Students need to be capable of their own extracurricular, as it prepares them for college, where no one will hold their hand as they pick their classes and extracurricular activities.
Being the valedictorian is a great honor among students. The students that work the hardest get rewarded. The top student(s) of the class receive the honor of valedictorian. The other students, no matter how close, do not get this. This causes a huge issue amongst these students.
