Surprisingly, the legalization of marijuana have a lot to do with each other. The fact is, drug dealers have mastered the act of supply and demand. They know exactly who their target is, and they know exactly how to get the most from selling. So that is one of aspect of how marijuana ties in to economics. Another would be how legalizing it plays into our economy, and essentially, how much most states are losing out on the big bucks by keeping marijuana illegal.

They have an underground gold mine. They are making tons of money from selling, and the government isn’t getting a penny of it, when they easily could. Instead of making a profit from marijuana sells, they are doing the total opposite. The government spends between 20 to 25 billion dollars a year on putting dealers on trial and sending people with possession of marijuana to jail. That alone would save the government so much money that could be spent on lots of other important things.
Luckily, there are some states that picked up on the economical gain that can be made from legalizing marijuana. As of November 2016, there are 8 states that allow the recreational use of marijuana. Not only did the legalization of marijuana save the government money from law enforcement expenses, but it also would raise the potential to make a huge profit from the sales tax of marijuana. It would stimulate the economy by adding 4,200 new jobs. Along with that, it will also help increase our Gross Domestic Product because more goods will be retailed and produced.
There is a great market demand for marijuana, and it is growing rapidly. There are several companies that are centered completely around marijuana. And there are constantly new and upcoming marijuana products in the market, that are also growing rapidly. The marijuana industry is spreading, as new products are made, and it is going to keep bringing in more and more revenue, and the government needs to determine if they want to get a portion of that revenue.
But, legalizing marijuana could also decrease the demand of it. Some of the time when people smoke marijuana, they are smoking it because of the fact that it is illegal and that makes it more much fun for them.
