A mood disorder is referred to as “episodes”. For those that are diagnosed with a mood disorder, report they are affected by a state of feeling depressed or, on the other hand, feeling highly confident, energized, focused, yet has racing thoughts faster than they could be spoken (Oltmanns & Emery, 2015, p. 107-111). However, mood disorders also affect a person emotionally, cognitively, somatically, and behaviorally. To treat depressive disorders, therapist needs to address the individual suffering from this disorder by talking to them and finding a way to help them understand their frustration and not allowing it to interfere and control their daily life. Bipolar disorder is not as common as mood disorders. By combining bipolar I and bipolar II disorders, the lifetime risk was four percent (Oltmanns & Emery, 2015, p. 117). The reason being that bipolar disorders affect individuals less than depressive disorders, is because most of the time that a person is diagnosed with bipolar disorder if it is not treated or they go into relapse, most of time they are then diagnosed with a type of depressive disorder (Black & Grant, 2014, p. 1). A person is most likely to be diagnosed with a bipolar disorder due to biological factors and or stressful life events such as, lack of sleep due to their schedule, working hard and fatiguing yourself to reach a goal, and or having a job
