Imagine a nation where some of the people were slowly yet surely killing themselves and that some people did not have the freedom, or choice, to act otherwise. There’s actually no need to imagine, because if you look at our own nation this is just what is occurring with America’s diet and nutritional values; later on I will address how the food industry is deceiving millions of citizens. What matters now are the facts: as of 2012, a staggering 68.6% of the nation’s adult population was overweight, with 34.9% of citizens being extremely overweight, also known as obese. Let’s Move!, has several successful ongoing projects such as Let's Move! Cities, Towns and Counties; Chefs Move to Schools; Let's Move! Faith and Communities; Let's Move Outside!; Let's Move! Museums and Gardens;Let's Move! in Indian Country; Let's Move! Child Care; and Let's Move! Salad Bars 2 Schools. The Obama administration has also taken some steps to tackle the issue of the national diet and nutrition crisis by passing the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, groundbreaking legislation that is helping American public schools offer healthier school meals for tens of millions of American children, having the Department of Agriculture release new school meal regulations to boost the quality and nutrition of our national school lunch and breakfast programs, and by having the FDA mandate a three year period for the removal of all PHOs, a type of trans fat, from the food supply.
