Purpose statements play a central role in building and understanding scholarly research. For instance, a fundamental aspect of the purpose statement as a scholarly research shapes how the authors select and address their audience, the criteria in which the research will be judged, and the implications for how you will conduct the research (Laureate Education, 2016). These details highlight how the purpose statement represents more than the researcher’s intentions. For example, the study Hand Performance and Beliefs Among Public University Employees (Stedman-Smith, DuBois, & Grey, 2015) identify two purposes for this study. Thus, in reviewing the purpose statement which is clearly indicated in this research article (Stedman-Smith, DuBois, & Grey, 2015), the purpose statement included the majority of the items listed on the checklist. First, the purpose statement appropriate signals for the reader to lead and inform the reader. Second, the intent of the study was signified by stating the two objectives. Third, the researchers included that the participants would be public university workers and that the research would take place at the University. However, the purpose statement section did not contain the description of the intended research method. This analysis demonstrates how it is very likely that readers will look to identify these same type of information any research that has been categorized as “peer-reviewed.” Additionally, Dr. Patton (Laureate Education, 2016) explains in his discussion of the purpose of research that “… knowing the purpose of your research becomes really important to be able to do an inquiry as a scholar-practitioner that actually meets that purpose.” Overall, is it is my opinion that (Stedman-Smith, DuBois, & Grey, 2015) research demonstrates a logical alignment between the topic a theoretical construct, the identified problems and the purpose. In other words, the alignment process begins with the topic selected by the scholarly practitioner. Therefore, Stedman-Smith, DuBois, & Grey (2015) research illustrates how peer-reviewed articles should logically flow to address their target audience. To start the alignment the topic of employee hand hygiene is adequately in succinct with the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) that supports “health behavioral interventions” (Stedman-Smith, DuBois, & Grey, 2015, p. 1265).
