The management structure of any firm is directly influential on the overall performance of its workforce. The ability of management to introduce programs that align production and culture to the strategic goals of a business provides a significant influence on the overall performance. The interaction with external elements if managed correctly tends to provide fundamental properties to achieve sustained competitive advantage. Leadership programs also play a major role in ensuring that companies remain in line with their strategic objectives. Despite operating globally the leadership program for PWC has an increasingly regionalised focus. In the program, all employees who gain or are about to gain partner status are required to engage with communities in a locally managed setting. This is generally conducted within countries that are considered developing in nature, and members are required to apply their expertise to projects with the incorporation of local influence. A key example of this is in Laos, where direction was provided to community for the establishment of a national grid. The program therefore draws heavily on the human resource base of the company and its primary concern is developing ethical and resourced individuals who will provide leadership to both PWC and the associated global community. The utilisation of this program has been a great success and a sound long term investment for PWC. The resource based view is however, primarily concerned with the increased capacity that can be brought forward by such an investment. The program management involves a careful selection process which is followed by an induction phase. The successful candidates are then introduced to themes of diversity, leadership and sustainability. Following this the team is released to the field in order to negotiate with the stakeholders in action implementation. On completion of the field assignment, a guided reflection period is undertaken in order to make tacit learning (PwC, 2015).
