“Despite her feisty temperament, Queen Victoria was famously tiny in stature, measuring just 4 feet 11 inches tall” (Victoria, Queen. Queen Victoria. Biography). The Queen reigned for 63 years, the second longest in history. Victoria was born at Kensington Palace in London, on May 24, 1819. She became queen at the age of 18. Queen Victoria had a helpful husband, a prime minister, and many children. “Albert took an active interest in the arts, science, trade and industry; the project for which he is best remembered was the Great Exhibition of 1851”(Victoria R. 1837-1901 The Royal Family). Victoria was only a couple of months older than him. Since Victoria was queen, Albert couldn´t propose to her because of the rules of the kingdom. So on October 15, 1839, Victoria proposed to Albert. For years before his death, Albert suffered from stomach issues. In 1861, he died of Typhoid fever, which was a bacterial disease. It was spread by contaminated food or water. ¨Victoria was devastated, sleeping with a plaster cast of his hand by her side, and went into a 25 year seclusion¨(Victoria, Queen. Queen Victoria. Biography). After Prince Albert had died, Victoria was very depressed. He died at Windsor Castle on December 14, 1861. The prince was at the age of 42 when he died. For the rest of her life, Victoria wore black in grief of her husband(Victoria ( R. 1837-1901)The Royal Family). Prince Albert and Queen Victoria had nine children together. When these children were growing up, it was sometimes hard for Victoria to care for them. She had a whole kingdom to run, and not even Albert had enough time to care for their children. His official title was now Lord Melbourne. William tutored Victoria, and told her the best decisions to make. Melbourne taught Victoria politics and government that she didn't learn yet. In a constitutional monarch, many issues occurred, so William was always by Victoria's side.
¨In 1806, he was elected to the commons as a Whig MP for Leominster, where he served from 1806 to 1829, before joining the House of Lords on his father's death¨(History Of William Lamb, 2Nd Viscount Melbourne - GOV.UK). Joining the commons as a Whig MP meant that he was elected for the judges house, and he served for about 20 years. By being a part of the House of Lords let him make more decisions politically. For a short while, he was also secretary of Ireland, where he made agricultural decisions. Lord Melbourne died on November 24, 1848, in Brocket, England(History Of William Lamb, 2Nd Viscount Melbourne - GOV.UK). Overall, Queen Victoria had many influences in her reign. She had many people by her side guiding her. She had a Prime Minister that helped her with politics. A husband who was always there for her. And many children who took over the crown after Victoria. Indeed, Queen Victoria had a very long and fulfilling life.
