We're living in a day and time where more people are faced with challenging situations that place them in unethical dilemmas. In Beyond Integrity, Rae and Wong addresses these types of dilemmas, and provides solutions to overcome those unethical situations in the workplace from a biblical perspective. What is business ethics? “Business ethics is concerned with avoiding wrongdoing (malevolence), but increasingly also with doing right (benevolence)” (p.16). “In almost every well-publicized scandal in the business world, scholars and highly respected participants are caught in actions that seem to go beyond the bounds of how they would act as individuals” (p.486). How does this happen to otherwise good and moral people? “One possible explanation to this pressing question has to do with the nature and structure of organizations” (p.486). One of the most recent publicized scandals in the world of business is the Wells Fargo account scandal. Wells Fargo was fined for creating phony accounts to boost their sales figures in 2016. Although the employees thought that this tactic was ethical and seemed to be beneficial for the corporation at the time, the customers were the ones that were ultimately affected by the actions of the employees of the corporation. In the workplace, Christians more than often find themselves challenged ethically. They want to do what is right, but are often blindsided by the rewards. “Ethics must become a key part of strategic planning and objectives through the cultivation of integrity as the governing ethic” (p. 490).
