Reading Ladder

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (most difficult read)
This book was so difficult to understand that while I was reading it, I had to go back and read almost every chapter two times. Even though the story was narrated from the point of view of a child, the author incorporated many elements of writing which I found hard to understand. These included advanced levels of irony, symbolism, vocabulary, and many more literary techniques. Despite that, the book had a deep meaning associated with it and evoked many questions chapter after chapter. While I found some areas of the plot to be quite redundant and confusing, especially the beginning, it all started to tie together as I kept reading. It also dealt with mature subject matter; about a prostitute seeking safety in London during the time the infamous “Jack the Ripper” went on a rampage. It was especially challenging to me since the book had many themes the author “juggled” around. From one moment, it could be talking about the power of sympathy of someone else and in the next, explaining how there is deception amongst even the most arbitrary of things. Additionally, the book had a very progressive plot which I found hard to understand due to the large amounts of metaphorical descriptions and different language style. It was one of the most unique pieces of writing I had come across. While in terms of just reading, it was very easy and short, the content was something else. It talked about a kid with Autism went on a venture of truth and how he was able to cope with reality. I liked the unique visuals and direct interactions the author had with the reader (jokes here and there) had spread across the novel. Ultimately, I glad I chose to read this book because it actually changed me as a person after I read it. It taught me how to view the world differently and how I could be more
