It made me think about the formal aspect of writing instead of free writing. The guide also helped me become a better writer in terms of experience, I never focused on including my own experiences while I was writing because I figured it didn’t matter, but the goals helped me realize that they do matter. I was able to see that I was only able to relate to my experience and interpretation of the essay not being able to include other individuals’ interpretation. At first I was lost when it came to revising my paper I didn’t really know what was expected of me. So I constantly reviewed the goals and summarized each goal in my own words so that I was able to understand it .I didn’t really have any revising methods when I first started the course but after practicing revising in class I was able to develop a strategy that helped me revise my paper; which is asking someone different people to look over my paper and then getting their opinion and making it my own. …show more content…
Revising each draft was one of my biggest struggle writing both the Sherman Alexie and Rodriguez texts. Overall, I learned to ask questions in order to incorporate other interpretations in my paper. The difference between my writing is that I’m able to use the appropriate writing tools instead of free writing which isn’t bad but I learned that formal writing is needed in order for me to succeed at UWM and to pursue a degree in Education. I feel that using the goals have been effective for me because it keep my writing organized and on track. I feel like the goals also helped me when I became stuck and didn’t know how to start my paper; now I know that I must choose quotes first, cite in mla, paraphrase the quote in my own words and etc. The writing Center have been a big help through my journey in English
