Final Reflection
Overall, I believe that this course was beneficial to my academic writing skills. I found that with the TA and peer feedback, I was able to reflect upon the three different writing skills, and improve my writing. For the first essay that worked on writing a personal narrative effectively, I found that there were many common mistakes made that were caught by both my peers, and my TA. Some elements that my peers suggested are to add for dialogue so I am “showing” the story rather than “telling” it, and to describe the significance of the story. Additionally, my peers also mentioned that while I did a could job of describing most parts of my stories, adding descriptions of the house, and area could make the story more effective. …show more content…

However, she concludes that I need to focus more on the structure of my essay, including; adding a climax, describing the significance of the essay, and to refocus my reflection. After analyzing all the feedback, I went through the essay again, looking for where these suggestions fit in, and if I thought that it would make the essay more effective. After determining this, I made the necessary revisions to what I thought improved the essay. This process helped me to realize how peer review is a tactic more creating a quality essay. This way one can have a different perspective on the essay. I would say not to always add the what the feedback suggests, but I found that it is a good start when revising as it opens of your mind to new perspectives. Therefore, I found that this process made my writing more effective, and improved my grade my personal essay. It helped me to examine elements in my writing that needed work. When revising my personal narrative for final evaluation, I first revised the structure, added an epiphany in the story to introduce a purpose to the story, and that it could act in place of the climax that I did not have. Also, to fix the structure, I made a new paragraph when dialogue started.
