Despite the challenges that a child nurse may encounter I feel I have the aspiration to pursue this rewarding, inspirational and demanding career. I understand that the role does involve lives being lost and witnessing pain and discomfort that some children may experience during their stay in hospital. I on the other hand, still have a passion to become a children's nurse as I would love to have the opportunity to work with children and make a great difference to their lives. Reflecting when my brother was admitted to hospital due to a lung impairment, I witnessed first-hand the agony and distress he went through and from that moment my desired career path as a children's nurse was set. Examining the Human Rights Act (1998) has assisted me in understanding how this will help protect and safeguard everyone in a health and social care setting despite the individual differences. Anatomy and Physiology is a topic that has helped me to understand how the body is structured and the knowledge on how the different organs within the body function. Having this fundamental knowledge provides an essential tool in the world of children's nursing which in turn developed by my Paediatric First Aid training course. The course has helped me to gain an insight on the possible practices that a children's nurse may carry out such as CPR, bandaging, and how to deal when a child may be choking or suffering from seizures. Carrying out work experience at Hodge Hill Primary School has greatly influenced my abilities when working with children and young people. This has further enhanced on my ability to communicate with children in a manner that ensures that I have demonstrated care and compassion. This is crucial for me to know as a children's nurse as it will help me to meet the patients' needs and preferences through building effective professional
