Delphi is the epicenter of many greek mythology stories and is the place where the stories about Apollo and the oracle are based. Delphi was originally formed in 1500-1000 BC. Delphi got its original religion in 800 BC. It has many statues and sanctuaries that are dedicated to Apollo and other gods. These are a major tourist attraction. Delphi is also known for having the Pythian games. Many tourist come to visit Delphi for its history, entertainment and beautiful weather.

The Oracle
You may have heard of the oracle of Delphi. The oracle plays a very important part in stories of Greek mythology. The oracle answers questions that the person wants to know. The revelation of Croesus is the most well known one. The oracle told Croesus that if he went to war a great empire would fall. This was the same battle in which the Lydian Empire fell. The process to get the oracle to tell you anything was strenuous and exhausting, you have to be very diligent to go through with it.. The first step is to wash in the Castalian river and burning leaves while drinking water. Next an animal would be sacrificed, then the person would offer a dish called a pelanos. (which is like a pie) Next the priestess would give a drug to produce a feeling of ecstasy. This is a very lengthy process and would take about a day. The first temple was built in 7th century BC. The focal point of this temple is the Doric temple of Apollo and it burnt down in 548 BC. Another architectural feature is the the marble sculpture of the battle of Marathon. This was to recognize the importance of the battle and honor all the martyrs. Also many temples and shrines to Athena were built. These can symbolize both morose and ecstatic
