And even those who use Twitter do it in fits and starts, without any consistency or strategy. Twitter can be overwhelming to say the least especially for those who are new to social media. But despite the drawback, it is a valuable tool for connecting with the community, donors and supporters. Use Twitter’s real estate: There are places on Twitter where you can upload good photos and these include the background, the header as well as the bio image. Text in the background image cannot be hyperlinked but nevertheless, it’s still a great opportunity for your nonprofit to feature the people it impacts every day and tell its story.
3. Research hashtags: Do your research and find out which topics and hashtags are trending in your industry then use them. Using the wrong hashtag will mean that you are missing out on a lot of exposure.
4. Follow more relevant people: Whether you like it or not, following as many people as you can is one of the most effective ways of connecting with others. The idea is to look for strategic contacts that will help grow your brand.
5. Be timely: People are on Twitter because they want to know what’s happening now and not yesterday. As such, being timely and posting on current events is important. Stay on top of trends and take care not to go off-brand as this will only make you look spammy.
