In William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, the tragic ending, conflicts, and love story, creates a lingering question: is this a tragic or romantic story? 2 rival households, 1 city, 2 lovers, 1 tragic love story. Impulsive decisions and misunderstandings lead to a tragedy that will mark the city’s history. Unexcepted deaths and sacrifices were made just for plans to fail. Lack of communication and old grudges all play a part in this tragic love story. (5.3.175) Even though this love story ends in tragedy, the author shows us Romeos and Juliet's commitment to each other. For example, “This is thy sheath, there rust, and let me die.” Juliet would rather end her life than marry Paris. Romeo's death, just like Juliet's, could have been prevented, but to prove their love for each other, they both chose to end their lives.
