Letter of Intent Every day is a blessing and learning experience for me because my greatest joys in life is learning, finding progressive improvement, and life-long education. I trace my passion for caring and wanting to help others back to when I was a very young girl. I looked after my medical fragile grandfather. The care love and attention I gave him came from my heart, and was a daily responsibility I took on without hesitation. He passed away a few years ago, and yet my compassion to care for others continues. After this educational advancement, I will be able to increase the scope of my practice by helping the poor, the sick and needy in rural areas at all costs. The Duke Nurse Anesthesia program is great in that is partners with a strong teaching hospital with great reputation for evidence based practice and research. I have aspirations to obtain my DNP degree so that I can one day teach anesthesia to the next generation that possess the “eye of the tiger”. For example although we have “Obama Care” and everyone should have insurance, there are still a great portion of people that don’t have insurance. There is a great decrease in amount of money hospitals are being reimbursed from Medicare/Medicaid and there is a big effort nationwide to grant independent practice to all advance practice registered nurses-midwives, nurse practitioners, and anesthetist-in the name of cost cutting. Cost cutting is one of the many challenges we as healthcare workers face every day, but I am no stranger to adversity. When my grandfather died it was very difficult for my family and me. As that was the first close death I had experience and it was questions on whether or not foul play was the cause of death for my grandfather in that hospital. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, cliché but absolutely true. Life’s challenges has made me confident and stronger, I eagerly await the next set of challenges because it is only shaping and molding me for my greater desire to be a candidate for admission into your nurse anesthesia
