I have worked to expand my leadership skills at the district level in budgeting, leadership, project management and application of Career and Technical Education (CTE) initiatives, aligning frameworks, connecting with Middle School programs, Advisory Committees and Technology Initiatives. I work with Sumner's CTE staff to complete
I became a school counselor simply because I wanted to live a life of meaning and be a force for good in the world. Throughout life, having real and honest conversations that support growth, positive change, and owning responsibility are critical to self-actualization. I want to empower my students to give their best effort in all areas of life, not just their education. I believe that simple encouragement in this type of environment is the key to positive change, and I wanted to dedicate my professional life to reflect that belief. I whole-heartly believe in the holistic approached to a balanced and fulfilling life and being a school counselor is a unique career that fulfills this value.
Every dime I earn working at Reynolds Community College and every grant and scholarship I receive will go towards my passion of studying human behavior and applying everything I learn to bringing every community I can reach, a giant leap forward. After receiving my associates degree in Social a Science I decided to take a year off to work towards finding what it is that I really want to pursue. I have searched for that 'something ' that will keep me intrigued and awake all hours of the night without realizing it. I have eliminated the idea of simply working to make ends meet or finding a good job to support my family and "living" outside the 40+ hours of a weekday job. I am pursuing much more and I am confident that I have found a path leading me to wake up before my alarm clock sounds instead of praying for more time.
In the last year I took on a variety of extracurricular activities in order to confirm my desire to become a physician. I took on a job as a research assistant in a neuroscience lab. This experience showed me how to take the information I had learned from the classroom and apply it to my research. It also taught me that an interest in science alone was not enough for me to achieve my goals or tackle real lab problems, but most importantly it helped me realize that I wanted to do more than just research. My time in the lab taught me that although I enjoyed science, I truly wanted interaction and connection with people and to see the medical application of these scientific techniques.
I always had an interest in learning about different sciences in High School, and knew I wanted to choose a career where I could help people. However, it was not until I was in my senior year, when my father fell sick, I realized my true interest was in medicine and the human body. The doctors would come into his hospital room, explaining what tests they were doing and what medications they were going to give him. My curiosity lead me to research the illnesses he was being tested for; forms of vasculitis. It was not until after numerous different tests and a lung biopsy that my father was diagnosed with the rare form of vasculitis, Churg-Strauss Syndrome.
Most of my family members received their higher education. I respect and love graduate school because of the abundance of innovation and also culture diversity. I appreciate immensely all that school has provided me with. I was assigned a teaching assistant position in different classes in Virginia Tech. Being a TA has been an invaluable experience and I greatly enjoyed the mutual learning process from both students and professors.
I have always had a passion for making a difference in others’ lives. From a young age my aspiration has to become a teacher, but I was not sure what level of education I would be best suited in. All through high school, I was involved in Best Buddies and Allied Sports which worked solely with students with disabilities. It brought me great joy to see them happy when people cared about them and even simply talked to them. It was not until about the end of my junior year in high school, I decided to explore different areas of education my senior year.
Chris Penley, my mentor, shared that the aspect of administration that he relished more than others was his ability to impact more people on a broader scale as an administrator than he ever could as a teacher. Consequently, the experiences I've listed previously have provided me with ample opportunity to observe and participate in numerous meetings, social activities, discipline discussions, and school level academic decisions. Fortunately, I’ve worked alongside a handful of great principals and assistant principals who have impacted me greatly as a professional and a person.
I am applying to your master’s program in biomedical communications for the Fall 2018 semester. I have been interested in becoming a medical illustrator since I was in the seventh grade and the fact that the biomedical communications program is only one out of four medical illustration programs in North America renders it very appealing. Throughout the entirety of my life, I have been fascinated with the sciences and the visual arts. As a child, I filled sketchbooks with portraits of family members and copies of anatomy drawings from anatomy textbooks.
it’s been 4 years since I left education and 2 years since I left work at a secondary school and upon reflection, I appreciate the massive impact that teachers including myself as a teching assistant has had on young people’s lives. After visiting my students and their parents, I realised that the life skills and knowledge developed in school, will be used throughout their lives. Therefore, as a teacher, I hope to be a role model that inspires them to make positive contributions to society and the capacity to look at the world critically. For these reasons, I am applying for the PGCE in Citizenship course. I believe that the knowledge I’ve acquired as a Teaching Assistant (ASD) in a Secondary school has equipped me with specific knowledge of
I have been a teaching assistant in the Foundation Program Unit at Gulf University for Science and Technology since August 2012. My job revolves around teaching grammar and vocabulary for English as a Second Language students. I normally give two to three daily lab classes per semester. Besides, I coordinate and oversee the scheduled labs, one-on-one tutoring sessions, and in support of the Director and the faculty, I am assigned various office duties.
Odysseus, King of Ithaca was categorized as an epic hero. It is clear why he is described this way, and all in all, understandable because the ancient greeks valued different qualities in people and heroes a person would nowadays. For this reason, Odysseus could be seen as a hero in the eyes of the ancient greeks but not in the eyes of people today. The greeks during Homer’s time chose to ignore his traits that people today would see as major flaws. Despite all of this however, Odysseus from The Odyssey by Homer, was and is the epic hero that the greeks saw him as.
Growing up, children are always asked what they want to be when they grow up. For most kids, the most common answers include a doctor,a vet, a firefighter and the most funniest, a superhero. For me I started off wanting to be a Pediatrician, but later on as I got older, I loved the idea of hearing people's troubles and problems. I participated in many clubs in school for peer mediation, problem solver, As well as I was in counseling, due to a bullying issue in elementary and middle school. As I got to middle school, I learned that I wanted to be a school counselor, reason being my school counselor(s) helped me throughout my school years.
Personal Statement I come from a large family with relatives from a little ranch in Chihuahua, Mexico. Many of which have never made it past grade school. Mainly due to their mother, my grandma, she had fallen very ill. Due to her condition and lack of money my aunts and uncles dropped out of school to work and help pay for her medication and medical expenses. The older siblings had to take care of the younger siblings.
Reflecting on my educational and practical experiences, I appreciate the infinite influence that teachers have on children. I realise that children will take the skills and knowledge learnt in the classroom and use it throughout their lives. I know a teacher has to deal with many daily pressures and challenges, in the classroom. However, I feel I require the skills needed to deal with these challenges. As a teacher I hope not only to be an educator but a positive role model, whom the children can look up to and trust.
