I have worked to expand my leadership skills at the district level in budgeting, leadership, project management and application of Career and Technical Education (CTE) initiatives, aligning frameworks, connecting with Middle School programs, Advisory Committees and Technology Initiatives. I work with Sumner's CTE staff to complete
Every dime I earn working at Reynolds Community College and every grant and scholarship I receive will go towards my passion of studying human behavior and applying everything I learn to bringing every community I can reach, a giant leap forward. After receiving my associates degree in Social a Science I decided to take a year off to work towards finding what it is that I really want to pursue. I have searched for that 'something ' that will keep me intrigued and awake all hours of the night without realizing it. I have eliminated the idea of simply working to make ends meet or finding a good job to support my family and "living" outside the 40+ hours of a weekday job. I am pursuing much more and I am confident that I have found a path leading me to wake up before my alarm clock sounds instead of praying for more time.
In the last year I took on a variety of extracurricular activities in order to confirm my desire to become a physician. I took on a job as a research assistant in a neuroscience lab. This experience showed me how to take the information I had learned from the classroom and apply it to my research. It also taught me that an interest in science alone was not enough for me to achieve my goals or tackle real lab problems, but most importantly it helped me realize that I wanted to do more than just research. My time in the lab taught me that although I enjoyed science, I truly wanted interaction and connection with people and to see the medical application of these scientific techniques.
I became a school counselor simply because I wanted to live a life of meaning and be a force for good in the world. Throughout life, having real and honest conversations that support growth, positive change, and owning responsibility are critical to self-actualization. I want to empower my students to give their best effort in all areas of life, not just their education. I believe that simple encouragement in this type of environment is the key to positive change, and I wanted to dedicate my professional life to reflect that belief. I whole-heartly believe in the holistic approached to a balanced and fulfilling life and being a school counselor is a unique career that fulfills this value.
I always had an interest in learning about different sciences in High School, and knew I wanted to choose a career where I could help people. However, it was not until I was in my senior year, when my father fell sick, I realized my true interest was in medicine and the human body. The doctors would come into his hospital room, explaining what tests they were doing and what medications they were going to give him. My curiosity lead me to research the illnesses he was being tested for; forms of vasculitis. It was not until after numerous different tests and a lung biopsy that my father was diagnosed with the rare form of vasculitis, Churg-Strauss Syndrome.
Most of my family members received their higher education. I respect and love graduate school because of the abundance of innovation and also culture diversity. I appreciate immensely all that school has provided me with. I was assigned a teaching assistant position in different classes in Virginia Tech. Being a TA has been an invaluable experience and I greatly enjoyed the mutual learning process from both students and professors.
I have always had a passion for making a difference in others’ lives. From a young age my aspiration has to become a teacher, but I was not sure what level of education I would be best suited in. All through high school, I was involved in Best Buddies and Allied Sports which worked solely with students with disabilities. It brought me great joy to see them happy when people cared about them and even simply talked to them. It was not until about the end of my junior year in high school, I decided to explore different areas of education my senior year.
I love interacting with people and helping them develop themselves as productive citizens and people. From community volunteer work to service in school organizations and honor societies, people have always been my passion. That’s why I believe that the first step to achieving any goal is establishing a support system of people that will support the journey to success. This is the reason that I’ve become involved in several leadership and service organizations in my school, including student council, Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National English Honor Society, National Honor Society, varsity basketball, and chamber choir. In my role as President of FBLA and FCA, my position as Vice President in NHS, and my responsibilities as a team leader in student council and a section leader in chamber choir, I’ve learned how to lead a group of people in service and support.
Chris Penley, my mentor, shared that the aspect of administration that he relished more than others was his ability to impact more people on a broader scale as an administrator than he ever could as a teacher. Consequently, the experiences I've listed previously have provided me with ample opportunity to observe and participate in numerous meetings, social activities, discipline discussions, and school level academic decisions. Fortunately, I’ve worked alongside a handful of great principals and assistant principals who have impacted me greatly as a professional and a person.
I am applying to your master’s program in biomedical communications for the Fall 2018 semester. I have been interested in becoming a medical illustrator since I was in the seventh grade and the fact that the biomedical communications program is only one out of four medical illustration programs in North America renders it very appealing. Throughout the entirety of my life, I have been fascinated with the sciences and the visual arts. As a child, I filled sketchbooks with portraits of family members and copies of anatomy drawings from anatomy textbooks.
Odysseus, King of Ithaca was categorized as an epic hero. It is clear why he is described this way, and all in all, understandable because the ancient greeks valued different qualities in people and heroes a person would nowadays. For this reason, Odysseus could be seen as a hero in the eyes of the ancient greeks but not in the eyes of people today. The greeks during Homer’s time chose to ignore his traits that people today would see as major flaws. Despite all of this however, Odysseus from The Odyssey by Homer, was and is the epic hero that the greeks saw him as.
Personal Statement I come from a large family with relatives from a little ranch in Chihuahua, Mexico. Many of which have never made it past grade school. Mainly due to their mother, my grandma, she had fallen very ill. Due to her condition and lack of money my aunts and uncles dropped out of school to work and help pay for her medication and medical expenses. The older siblings had to take care of the younger siblings.
As a school counselor, I believe that all students need a dependable support system that will provide them with the tools and resources necessary to be successful both personally and academically. My primary goal is to ensure that the counseling program caters to the academic, personal/social, and career-related goals of the students; thus, providing students with quality lessons that will support and maximize their efforts at being successful individuals. I believe it is essential to identify the needs of the school and steer guidance programs in a direction that will allow for not only student growth, but, campus growth as well. Furthermore, it is of great importance to me to advocate for all students and provide them with the guidance
I’m writting to apply for the position as a Teaching Assistant .... I believe that ... is the best place that has the professional working environment in which to achieve my goal of becoming an enthusiasm and responsible teacher To me, working as a teaching assistant brings a lot of interesting challenges and working with a number of students will help me to possess good communication and inter-personal skills. In addition, I love children and i think they are the most impressionable so teaching them correctly now is very important.
Reflecting on my educational and practical experiences, I appreciate the infinite influence that teachers have on children. I realise that children will take the skills and knowledge learnt in the classroom and use it throughout their lives. I know a teacher has to deal with many daily pressures and challenges, in the classroom. However, I feel I require the skills needed to deal with these challenges. As a teacher I hope not only to be an educator but a positive role model, whom the children can look up to and trust.
