A disturbing truth that has recently become much more of an issue is sexual assaults. Despite the fact that some people choose to ignore the issue, writing it off as "no big deal", the commonality of sexual assault is increasing. Sexual assault on university campuses, specifically, is becoming a critical problem. Sexual assault affects students to varying extents. It affects the students and school drastically, mentally and physically. Schools typically provide repercussions to help the victim and punish the perpetrator. Some universities are even trying to prevent sexual assault from happening in the beginning. With a plethora of evidence, it is clear that sexual assault on university campuses is becoming a serious issue.

Some schools will go very far to protect their reputation to the public. For instance, universities in Australia do not help victims of sexual harassment, they even go as far to cover the incident in order to avoid hurting the way the public perceives them (Williams and Damien A10). Physically, sexual assault highly affects the victim. "Other physical effects of sexual assault may include chronic disease, gynecological symptoms, damage to the urethra, vagina and anus; headaches, eating disorders, and irritable bowel syndrome." (Morrison 55). After a trauma like sexual assault, a person can not expect to be the same after. Mentally, the victim most likely will suffer symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), affecting every situation of their life. A victim can expect to not act the same in their personal life after having gone through sexual assault. Their relationships with friends and family may change and they might end up with financial issues due to medical expenses if they're needed.
