Welfare
There are different types of assistance programs in the United States for people in need. When these programs are utilized as intended, they can be real lifesavers. When people abuse these programs, it causes long life patterns that can be nearly impossible to break before passing the habit to our children, which leaves our future and our children’s futures continuously in debt. Welfare systems in the United States are set up for short-term use, not to be a source of income, or way of living.
In many aspects of our lives, we replicate what we see and how we are brought up; this can be a severe problem for children that see the constant use of a government system from a parent or grandparent. There are risks created when the use of a government “hand out” as socially acceptable. “When a parent is on welfare, the child is 7.7% less likely to be employed full-time, and 8% less likely to get a college degree. There used to be a feeling of embarrassment when utilizing an assistance program, not that it was ever an intention. It was thought to be a motivational aspect for those on assistance programs to make the necessary lifestyle changes to no longer need such help. Unfortunately, this is not the case anymore and not only is it hurting our economy, but it is hurting our children. Our generation has developed a sense of entitlement, the feeling of embarrassment is no longer there. It has now become socially acceptable to live off any and all systems. Some even spend more time finding new ways to get more out of a government system, thus draining even more out of welfare funding.
