An indentured servant is someone who is contracted to work for an employer for a number of years in exchange for passage and accommodation. Indentured servants are now illegal; but college athletes live under the same jurisdiction as indentured servants did, thus it should be illegal to be a collegiate athlete. However if college athletes get paid then they are not indentured servants anymore. College athletes should get paid because otherwise they can’t afford to eat, they bring in massive revenue for the school, and they are used to promote product. For many sports the bigger you are the better. Athletes go to 2 a day work outs to bulk up and be more affective in their sport. However, how are athletes supposed to gain wait if they have nothing to eat. Being an athlete is a full time job, and with schooling stacked on top of it there is no time to make money. Because of this, many athletes are faced with the struggle of finding enough money to buy food. Shabazz Napier brought this issue to the attention of the world after Connecticut beat Kentucky in the national championship. Every year athletes bring in massive revenue for their school. Big D1 schools are now making more than 100 million dollars in revenue annually, due to ticket sales. Not only are schools making money just off of ticket sales, but also off of paraphernalia. The student stores get nonstop business selling uniforms and cheering gear. This means that collegiate athletes are worth around 100 million dollars. One would think that if these athletes are doing so much for their school, they would be getting repaid more than just with a scholarship.
