For quite some time now, there has been a big debate on rather college athletes should get paid or not. If you were a college athlete, wouldn’t it be nice to get paid doing what you love to do? These athletes are spending most of their time focusing on their sport. For some, it may even be multiple sports. College athletes balance school, studying, and multiple practices; therefore, provides a limited amount of time to work a job. According to Steve Wieberg, USA Today, athletes are spending 20-40+ hours a week just practicing, which does not include travel and games. If these athletes were to reach the highest level, they won’t play as hard. A lot of people have even said that NCAA basketball is more interesting than NBA basketball. If these athletes are not getting paid for it, then they will actually strive to be the best, and put their heart into the game. Once they start getting paid, they’re only going to be doing it for the money and the fame that comes with the money. College athletes bring in an incredible amount of money each year. The NCAA alone is the largest collegiate sport organization in America. According to NCAA.org bring in an average of $1 billion per year. Not million, billion! College football brings in about $95 million per year. College baseball brings in an average of $69,000 per year, and so on for other sports. These athletes are bringing in more than enough money to be getting a small portion of it. The money they are bringing in is also going toward bigger things. It helps pay for their scholarships. The money also goes towards the up keeping of their stadiums and where they practice. They have to pay the bills to keep their stadiums up and running.
