The controversy in this topic is over whether or not college athletes should get paid. While some people believe college athletes shouldn’t be paid, they should be paid because the colleges make all the money, most players do not go professional, people make money off the players, and the players put in a lot of time into the sport. With all the hours they put into practicing, they could be putting it into studying for classes. Many athletes are in debt from having to pay for book debts and giving the athletes money would help to solve that issue. All the money the college athletes get could also be spent in a bad way. Some argue that college athletes should not be paid. One reason college athletes should not be paid is because they will be irresponsible with their money. All the money big athletes get could be used on things to distract them from their athletic careers. One example of that is the young college athletes spending their money and wasting it on drugs or any other items to get them in trouble. Athletes could get in trouble which would affect their athletic careers. Athletes could spend money on drugs which will lead to a suspension which will lead to not being able to practice which leads to not getting better. That one bad decision with the money they got paid, will cost them their whole future. Also, when players get that big paycheck athletes could stop working as hard and think they can rest, which will affect the rest of their career. Finally, the money they get will be used on things they want, like drugs, and not things they need, like books and cars. The money they get could also lead them to go into
