College can be the most difficult and the most fun students will ever have. The difficult part being the classes, the homework, and the people. Freedom at college isn’t difficult, but to what extent the freedom comes as can be. Many college athletes don’t own much freedom, time, or money. Now, many argue that athletes shouldn’t obtain payment for their talent, so they should except the scholarships (if apprehended) to play. Others believe they hold the same stand points as professionals and should earn the payment. I agree with the college athletes being paid for the time they play. The colleges send out scholarships to “worthy” athletes; therefore, the students choose that school. Once the athletes got through a week, they realize how little time there is for anything. Imagine there’s 168 hours in one week and with the amount up to 60 hours for practice, the number decreases to approximately 108 hours for school, sleep, and other activities. Now that looks like a lot, but factor in a goodnight sleep (8 …show more content…

Rebuts: 1. Amateurs shouldn’t be paid due to the NCAA.
As said before, they are “already paid” by their scholarships and the fees being free, so why can’t they have spending money? 2. They go to college for free why would need more money to handle?
There are student that have to take out loans for college and their homes may not the most stable. Wouldn’t you want to help your family if you could? 3. The money they earn may not be benefit their health (drugs, alcohol, etc..).
Great athletes don’t use drugs for their problems and the school’s/NCAA have rules about drug and alcohol usage. 4. NCAA only allows 20 hours of practice per week.
Many athletes volunteer to practice and work out, so the number increase while the NCAA can’t do anything. It’s volunteer time the coach wants the athletes to use.
