Should "followership" be taught in colleges and universities like leadership? Yes, "followership" should be taught in colleges and universities like leadership. To support this response, knowledge grasp from readings from “Understanding Leadership, An arts and humanities perspective” authored by Robert M. McManus and Gamma Perruci” in conjunction with other resources are being used as references within the response. Thus, defining the leader, the follower and the link between them both, the goal, is essential. Defining provides only one aspect of the three branches of leadership, however, also outlining their roles and responsibilities are crucial to the response. Chapter one of the readings provides the background knowledge of leadership. Consequently, an understanding of leadership leads to defining branches of leadership. As chapter two provides insights of the leader, chapter three provides insights of the follower and chapter four which completes the branches of leadership provides knowledge as it relates to the goal. Finally, chapter five will bring together the leader, follower and the goal to link them in the leadership process while chapter seven outlines how the role of the follower is evolving globally within the leadership process.
Yes, I believe that "followership" should be taught in colleges and universities like leadership. As the reading indicates, followership is a vital branch of the leadership process. In order for the leadership process to be successful, there has to be a clear understanding of how followers effects and relate to the leader and the goal within the leadership process.
