Over 1.2 million students drop out of high school every year in the United States before the earn their diploma, according to the Omaha World Herald. The current legal dropout age, in Nebraska, is eighteen; however, some people want it amended to sixteen. This way kids can get full time jobs. The state of Nebraska should maintain the current laws of dropping out of high school at the age of eighteen. The laws should remain the same because of the following: the state would not be able to keep track of all the teen dropouts, students’ brain do not fully develop until they are 25, and it would be difficult to get a job without a high school diploma. One of the main reasons the laws should remain the same, is because the state would not be able to keep track of all the dropouts to make sure they are actually have jobs. It is true that some teenagers need to work to help their parents pay bills but the state already cannot manage the students that are skipping school on a daily.
