Should middle school students decide whether or not to attend school? No, they should not, either. Middle school students are not mature enough to decide when they want to attend school because they are still learning what can or cannot be helpful, they could decide to drop out, and they could decide to skip school on testing days. Middle school students are still learning what can or cannot be helpful. “Because children lack experience and perspective, they do tend to make decisions that are impulsive.” (Taylor P#10) Children are still developing as they are still in their teenage years, which could cause them to make a harmful division. “The primary reason that people are dropping out of school is that they don’t think it’s worth the investment.” (Intercoast colleges, P#7) The things children learn in school might not seem important to them, causing them to drop out. Middle school children could stop attending school because they think it’s boring or irrelevant. Kids could stop coming to school altogether if given the chance. Students could decide to skip school on important learning days or even testing days. “29 percent said they have skipped school to avoid a test or quiz.” (Plotkin P#21) They could choose to completely skip important school days to get out of tests. They could as well skip to avoid a lesson they do not like. When the teacher announces there is an important test or event, a student could skip that day, causing them to miss important lessons in other classes.
