"$1,300,000,00 per year are spent on school uniforms" (School Uniform Statistics). Students attending public school should not be required to wear uniforms because uniforms are expensive, uniforms are uncomfortable, and uniforms restrict students' ability to express themselves.
Firstly, uniforms are forcing parents to spend unnecessary money. Parents spend over $200 per uniform, while some regular outfits can be as low as $20. $200 might not seem like a lot of money when shopping for clothing, and parents can assume that it will last the student the whole school year. But, when these students have siblings, the expenses for uniforms add up quickly. Even without any siblings, an only child's parent may not be able to afford these pricey uniforms, students will not be able to attend a school that requires uniforms. Also, parents already have to buy clothes for their children to wear when school is not in session.
