Are you a woman that does not get paid enough? Do you think you deserve to be paid more? This topic has had much controversy in the recent months. Statistics show that for every one dollar that the male earns, females only earn 78 cents, even when they work the same exact job (Hardwick). Females should be treated the same way as males are treated while at work. At almost every workplace, men get paid more than women do. The Center for American Progress states that women who work full time year round continue to earn only about 77 percent of what men earn (Cooper). Those women work the same amount and probably put in more effort than the men do, yet they still get paid less. For example, The Washington Post has stated that “female financial specialists make 66% of what males do. Doctors make 71%, and lawyers and judges make 87%”. There is no reason to back up why that is. What about the single mothers out there who have multiple kids? They have to work multiple jobs, not to mention work harder, just to get paid enough that a man can get from one job that doesn’t take half the amount of effort women put in. “The gap between the median wage for a man and that of a woman in 2010 was $10,784 per year” (Cooper), and that gap only gets bigger as they get older. Research has shown that “some women work less once they have children, but many don’t, and employers pay them less, too, seemingly because they assume they will be less committed” (Miller), even though that is not 100 percent true. Taking away a woman’s pay just because they have kids is not fair or reasonable. That will make them want to work even less. “About 11 percent of the gap is due to the fact that women are more likely than men to leave the paid labor force to provide family care” (Cooper), which is reasonable because more women go on leave for having children than men
