The Industrial Revolution altered the world in very many ways. The world changed very quickly from the way it had been for a very long time. New ideas were created to fit this new world. The German philosopher, Karl Marx, contributed to these new ideas in a major respect. He specifically promoted the ideas of communism. Communism is essentially the idea that there should be no privately owned property and everyone should only get what they need, which is earned through work. He presented the ideas of communism in his work called The Communist Manifesto. There are numerous movements today that still advocate for such ideas. People do this in different ways. One example includes those who support socialism. Socialism is the “any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods” (Merriam). Socialism has become a sort of fad ever since Bernie Sanders lost the election. An increase in interest in the DSA, or Democratic Socialists of America, has grown specifically among millennials. New membership increased extremely rapidly after the election of President Trump. It is not uncommon to hear college students or young adults say that they are socialists. As can be seen, these ideas presented in The Communist Manifesto are still extremely relevant …show more content…

This can be seen through the increasing commercialization of the modern world and the expansion of interest in movements advocating for a classless society. Communism is still applicable to the modern ways of life even though these ideas were first written down in the 19th century. Many people within modern society are able to look at this work by Marx and relate to it on many levels. Those who work in harsh conditions often feel as if they are apart of the proletariat. Marx was able to create a new idea that would change the world forever. His words continue to spark passion in the hearts of those who feel as if they are apart of the oppressed working class.
