During my morning at Gray-New Gloucester Middle School, I was fortunate to interview Mrs.S. a Special Education teacher. As I asked her “Why/How did you choose Special Education?” Mrs. S. said “That’s actually an interesting story” I was immediately intrigued and couldn't wait to hear what she had to share with me. Mrs.S. went to school at first not knowing what she wanted out of it. She graduated with an bachelor degree in English and left school still wondering what job was out there for her. Thats when a good friend of hers mentioned becoming an Ed tech for a while. She became an Ed tech at the Gray-New Gloucester Middle School. She helped special education teachers and she was very hands on with the students. After Ed teaching for a few years she knew that working with these children was her calling. When she became a teacher she wasn't worried about working with the students, it was dealing with the paperwork and grading along with filling out lots of forms and knowing all the proto calls. This was her biggest challenge when she became a special education teacher. Something that comes easy to her and knowing her students and teaching them. She was a camp counselor for many years which helped when it came to working with students. As of right now she has three Educational Technicians. Occasionally throughout the years that may fluctuate up or down. Each Educational Technician works with students in small groups. Mrs.S. Creates the lesson plans for each day and the technicians follow them. Ed technicians also go with students and support them in mainstream classes. They help the students stay organized throughout the day in classes and also is there to enforce good behavior. Each educational technician is required to complete safety training and behavior safety
