The Old Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Church that contains many artifacts. The Cathedral is one of the grandest in the world. It is significant to St. Louis because it is the first Cathedral West of the Mississippi River, so before 1816 it was the only church of any denomination that was for local settlers. The church is the beginning of Catholicism in the Colonial West (Basilica of St. Louis).

The Old Cathedral was completed in 1834, and its architects are Morton and Laveill. They created this building to have a Greek Revival and Neo Classical style. The building is Greek Revival by its doric columns and tower, while it is Neo Classical from its windows (Basilica of St. Louis).

Louis Public Library first opened on January 6, 1912. In fact Andrew Carnegie donated one million dollars to help this library be constructed. St. Louis Public Library has won the prestigious American Institute of Architects Honor award for its transformation. Furthermore this buildings adds to St. Louis’ rich architectural heritage, which is why it is know as the Rome of the West. The St. Louis Public Library is also significant to St. Louis because people are allowed to quietly study, or borrow books this library (Murvosh) (St. Louis American).
The library allows natural light to be poured into this building. There are three sides that the light pours in from, which represent the enlightenment from the books. Cannon Design has recently renovated the Public Library’s interior. However, the original architect of this building is Cass Gilbert. The exterior of this building is Beaux Arts, Romanesque, and Greek Revival. It is Beaux Arts because of its size, grand stairway, and symmetrical facade. It is also Romanesque because of its round windows, and it is Greek Revival because of its arches
