I remembered myself back in high school taking the MEAP test, which I did not know why I was taking the test, and the test was done in the library. All of the bilingual students did not know why they should take it. Every time we asked what it was for, the teacher responded with “just sit down and do it, it’s for the school to see your average”, and she scared us. I believe, from my experience, standardized testing is never taken seriously by teachers who don’t explain to the students why we have to take this test, the teachers should prepare the students to be set when it comes to taking the MEAP, and the students don’t care because they think it’s not going to effect their grade at all. I still remember how the tests being long that made get tired doing them and just guessed any answers to finish. I think standardized tests do not make any differences from other student’s beliefs about them, in which, there is no point of taking standardized tests, because students generally take them in the beginning of the school year and then the grades are posted at the end of the school year, which is late to make any improvements for the students needs. The test also supports different kind of districts to decide whether school curriculums are achieving or it is just a showing the abilities of district students. The tests are differentiated with grades on a school record that are given by teachers, which can simply change whether a student graduates or goes to a better school. Many of school districts, teachers and parents believe that standardized testing supports to decide how well a student has learned from material that has been taught in school.
