INTRODUCTION
Testing students have been used since the 1800s and is still used today (Background of the issue 1). In the United States most colleges require certain scores on either the SAT, or ACT. Depending on these scores it may make it hard, for students to get into the college they wish to attend. Student performance is not measured by a standardized test. These tests also are an in accurate way to accumulate information about a student. On top of this, studying for these tests can be very stressful and students overwhelmed with stress do poorly on tests. Schools should not use standardized testing because tests should not be the deciding factor, for college acceptance.

Knowing that depending on the out come of a test can affect there future life's, this can be nerve racking. With being stressed out, students fail under pressure. In 1996, Greg Norman was playing in the Masters and led his partner, until the ninth hole his wedge fell short, and got a bogey while he choked on the following holes and lost by five strokes. Professionals and students fail under pressure because the more important something is, the more nervous people become, and the more likely students are to fail.
Testing Does not Improve Student Performance
Standardized testing does not improve student performance. To learn something and remember it, repetition helps students learn. Test are a learn to forget method, students study to remember specific answers, and later forget what they had learned. Testing students evaluates a student’s performance on one particular day and does not take into account external factors (Meador 2). External factors could be family issues to lack or sleep. These situations all can lead to poor student performance. Other students external factors could be positive and lead to increased student performance which still is an inaccurate measure of increased performance.
