Nervous chatter fills the hallway as children mill about. The big exam was just around the corner. They could lose out on college and career opportunities because of this.
Standardized tests are used by most schools to assess the skills and abilities of their students. Seeing that there are numerous downsides to this type of testing, some schools are considering stopping using standardized testing.

This shows that even if kids understand their subject, only their test-taking abilities will influence their grades. Evaluating a student based on their performance on a test that they might have done badly on will lower their self-esteem, and in a grade book will show low skill in the subject. Using standardized testing will lower a student's motivation and does not show true effectiveness.
Schools need to stop using standardized testing so students are fairly evaluated on their skills and have more self-esteem.
