Every year in every state, there is a state standard test given to students in public schools to determine their level of knowledge. This test is often the determinate on rather or not if that child is able to continue onto the next grade level. On scale appearance, if a child scores higher than a five then that child demonstrate the require knowledge I order to proceed onto the next grade but, if that child scores below a five then they haven’t met the desired requirement and will remain in their current grade. Common standardized test in the state of Florida are called the FCAT, this test is distributed during primary school up until a student’s sophomore year of high school. I believe a test score shouldn’t be the cause on rather or not if a student gets into his or hers dream school or if they are able to make it to the next grade. Those tests don’t demonstrate a student’s actual knowledge, there are several other factors that play a role in determining one’s knowledge. One reason why high test taking doesn’t show a student’s knowledge is because one can develop anxiety causing them to panic and become overwhelmed, potentially causing them to receive a low-test score. Also, from personal experience whilst taking a standardized test I have noticed that I am being questioned on things I was never taught before causing me to not know the answers to the questions. Another reason is because the only things that should determine one’s knowledge are their grades, and classroom assessments. Questioning someone on something they were never taught doesn’t show their knowledge because their answers are going to be based off assumptions. I recall when I took my SAT during my junior year, I can across the science section of the test and majority of everything was relating to physics which was something I wasn’t required to take. During that section of the exam I was lost and highly confused on majority of the questions. I’m certain if I was taught physics I would’ve received a better score than what I ended with. Just because I didn’t do so well on this exam doesn’t mean I’m any less intelligent than any other
