Arizona Christian University (ACU) is a private 4-year institution that is devoted to creating leaders who can produce an impact on the world with the gospel (God’s word). Len Munsil, the President of ACU and author of the book “Transforming Culture with Truth”, mentions in his book that “we have forgotten who we are.” (Munsil 2) Which leads to the question, who are we supposed to be? ACU’s mission is “to provide a biblically integrated education that prepares its graduates to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in ministries and professional occupations.” (Munsil 50)

I, Demetri Tolbert, am a Point University alumni who graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Child and Youth Development. I am applying for the Masters of Divinity program because I believe the program will provide an opportunity for me to further my knowledge in ministry to not only build an effective ministry, but to grow people in the knowledge of God. On December 31, 2015, I was ordained as a minister of the Gospel under the leadership of my pastor, Bishop Frank McLeod. As I have grown up in and around church, with both Baptist and Pentecostal backgrounds, I have experienced great denominational divide in the body of Christ. However, I know God is too great to be confined within denominational constructs.
I personally believe that UNC Wilmington will allow me to grow academically as a student as well as an adult. Being from a small town in Maine I have always been the type of person to try new things and live to the fullest. When I decided to go to college, my mind was set on staying close to home my first year and getting the feel of what it is like. I strongly feel I am a very independent person and enjoy the challenges of doing things on my own. I have changed my mind many times on a career path I wish to pursue I don’t find it easy for someone my age to know exactly what they want to do for the rest of their life.
Transitioning from public school to catholic school was a huge obstacle to overcome. This transitioning helped me grow physically and intellectually. My mind was constantly challenged. I gained knowledge from this experience and learned how to apply it to certain situations. Growing intellectually requires one to take in new knowledge and that is exactly what I have done during my last four years at Mount St. Ursula.

Why College Matters to God In the introductory chapter of Why College Matters to God, the author focused on what a worldview is and why it is important in a Christian college setting. According to the author, “A worldview is a framework of ideas, values, and beliefs about the basic makeup of the world.” One point made was that worldviews are more about actions, not just beliefs.
Every academic institution has a set of objectives that are lined with a purpose. The purpose is to educate individuals to be well -rounded members of society. These individuals may become leaders or simply productive members of society, however it is their education that gives them the backbone to be either. Every organization has a set of goals and a mission that separates it from all other institutions as well as gives it a certain reputation in the community. The overall mission, vision, philosophy, and goals are the underlying purpose of the organization that makes it unique, Iwasiw(2015).
Why are you interested in administration of a Catholic school program? I believe every child is a gift from God and I love to see them share their gifts with others. Being a principal gives me the opportunity to share my passion in education with more students, teachers, and families. What are the unique attributes of Catholic education?
In the end, I am very lucky to be privileged enough to attend a Catholic school, especially, this one. I, having no prior knowledge of what Catholic school was like, and very impressed by the school. I am proud to attend such a wonderful school. St Benedict has really shown me what
Having attended Catholic schools since the age of three, I understand education involves is more than advancing intellectually; it is an opportunity to further develop my character by expanding my worldview, and applying using the knowledge and skills I have acquired for a greater purpose. As a member of the Purdue Honors College, I would have the opportunity to continue advancing in all aspects of my life. I would be surrounded by students who share my passion for learning and leadership, and enriched by their diverse interests and backgrounds. The mission, academic opportunities, and social environment of the program fully align with my personal expectations for my college education.
The main reason I want to attend Catholic University is because of the Catholic identity. I was born into Catholicism and a very conservative lifestyle. My whole life I have gone to mass every Sunday, pray the rosary every night, prayed before meals and attending catechism practically my whole life. For as long as I can remember I have always been told if I ever need help or want good outcomes to always pray, whether it’s for myself or others. Basically, my whole childhood and most of my adolescence I have had the same values as most of my peers since I grew up in south Florida.
Being Catholic means a lot to me because I feel like I have a connection with God and he always helps me get through difficult times when I tend to stress a lot. Being Catholic shows my qualities within the Catholic churches. When I was an altar server I definitely felt apart of the church, and to help organise some masses and to be apart of it made me feel special and that God would have been proud of me. I like being Catholic because it helps my full potential to come out.
There are so many unique aspects that make God so exciting to learn about! One of the reasons I chose Saint Thomas was because of their Theology requirement and while it may not be on other colleges’ list of requirements, it sure was at the top of mine. Saint Thomas has always been a religious university and I want to help it stay that way by using the chapels and churches on campus and truly spending the time to learn about God. God has always taught us to give to others and I consider giving back to the church and community to be those solutions. That does not mean that we can’t be inclusive of other religions out there.
