The strategic planning process is a difficult task but should be an extraordinary opportunity for organizations to analyze where they are, what they want to accomplish and how will they know they have accomplished their strategic goals. Every organization should have a strategic plan with the intentions of implementation and evaluation. Assessment of the strategic plan is a vital part of the improvement process. Procedures have to be in place for assessing the strategic issues outlined in the plan. In assessing an organization’s strategic plan, analyzing key components such as the vision, mission, objectives, strategies and action plans/steps is a good way to check the status of the organization in regards to meeting the strategic goals. These are essential elements of an effective strategic plan. The vision and mission of an organization are the driving forces for either success or failure. The organization has to know its purpose, philosophy and beliefs and how these things will be accomplished prior to proceeding to the next phase of the strategic planning process. It is the efforts or actions of an organization to accomplish a desired purpose or target. They are clear, concise and measurable. The development of objectives should take on the SMART format. The objectives should be smart (S), measureable (M), attainable (A), rigorous/relevant/results-based (R) and timely/time bound (T). Therefore, objectives outline a specific task an organization wish to accomplish with direct alignment with the mission. Depending upon the objectives, a multitude of data such as state assessment results, benchmark results, school climate survey results, teacher/leader evaluation instruments, staff/student attendance, student discipline report, formative/summative assessment, Star testing, I-Ready, etc. are critical data sources and indicators of
