After reviewing my taped interview with my client I am realizing my strengths and my weaknesses as a case manager. Both my client and I decided to record our first initial interview together. We decided on recording our first interview because it ended up being the most detailed as well as the longest interview we had in my opinion. So we felt that taping this meeting would be our best option. I also thought this would be a good interview to record so that I could look back on it and critique myself and the way that I interacted with my client and have the opportunity to compare it to my last interview. Not all children will be at the same place developmentally and may not need all of the same resources or have the same skills to apply. I feel that this is similar when it comes to working with clients. Not all clients are going to have the same issue, and even if they do, or it is similar, they may not need the same resources or have the same set of skills to help them reach their goals. I also feel that when meeting with clients it is important to remember to be open and not expect things from the client. I feel this way because when you are meeting with a client for the first time it may be hard for them to open up and share new information with you which can be challenging for planning future steps. This makes me think of the movie Antwone Fisher and how in Antwone had trouble opening up to his therapist. While not the same, I was still able to relate the information. For example, one thing I noticed as I watched my taped interview is that my client kept looking down and playing with her hair tie on her wrist or looking around the room. This was beneficial for me to reflect on as a case manager because it reminded me of how hard it can be to open up to a stranger and that as a case manager I need to remember to be respectful and understanding. Overall, I think that the interview went fairly well, I do believe that given the opportunity to participate and have further practice with interviews, my skills would improve. This was a very enlightening experience, and I am looking forward to engaging in further interviewing with
