Before furthering my education here at San Jose State University, I wasn’t sure what my interest and career path I wanted. Although I did always want to go into the law enforcement field, I was never sure exactly what I wanted to include myself in that field. As I began my career here at SJSU I developed an interest in the criminal justice system, more specifically in the field of law. I followed my interest and join clubs such as the Pre-Law Society club here at SJSU. Through this club I got the opportunity to meet and sit in panels on law students including Alan Adkisson.

Alan gave me a realistic perspective of what someone who wants this career can expect. He also showed me that all the doubts I had in my head can be overcomed. Alan said “the one value I still carry with me today is diligence”, as long as you stay optimistic and work hard you can be successful. He proved that no matter what your background is or your financial stance is, you can work through it. Alan is the Law student people don't learn about, he is not the prime example Columbia Law School uses on the cover of their Admissions page, but he is exactly the person people need to hear about to learn that anyone can do it. Although the interview felt very successful, I feel as if I could have changed a few minor details to improve my professionality. To bagan with I don’t recall properly introducing myself, I felt as if I was a little scattered when talking to Allen when we gathered for the interview. I also made a big mistake of not choosing a proper location. Our plan was to sit outside on campus and conduct the interview, but I did not take into account the weather, nor the amount of noise that surrounded us, Thankfully we found an empty lecture room, where we were not
