Joel, the love of Hannah’s life found interest in another girl at school. Because they are not talking anymore, Hannah decides to stop coming to school for a few weeks. Knowing that he was the only person she cared for, he left her questionable and weak. The break up between them to brought Hannah to a very dark place. At this very moment Hannah felt that everyone was against her.
Entry 5 (page 81-100) After being put under greater parental control, Melinda, alone in her room, decides to “open up a paper clip and scratch it across the inside of [her] left wrist” (87). She then describes what she is doing as “pitiful” (87). Melinda’s mother, seeing Melinda’s wrist the next morning, states that “suicide is for cowards” (88). Anderson makes it clear that suicide is not a solution rather a cowardly way to escape reality. The author’s stance is clearly against suicide and she persuades her readers to hold the same position as well.
How could the school and parents of the teen-agers help their children to stop doing the high risk things? Elizabeth Kolbert did describe how the teenagers do dangerous things and cite lots of authority people’s words to prove that points in the article “Terrible Teens”. We are still on the way to stop the teenagers doing the things what will endanger themselves. Using appeal to authority, repetition and personification devices to show the teenagers are really dangerous without adult stay with them and make the reader feel the same with the author. Elizabeth Kolbert did use personification,repetition devices and appeal to authority in his story to make the article more clearly and through to our life.
In the book Middle School: The Worst Years Of My Life, written by James Patterson the main character “Rafe,” goes through crazy, and sad things throughout middle school. The book is about a boy named Rafe, and he tries to break all the rules in the H.V.M.S. student rulebook. This book is a non-fiction and it focuses on the life of a troubled middle school boy. The three topics addressed in the book are: Rafe trying to break all the rules in the H.V.M.S. student rulebook also know as “Operation R.A.F.E.,” Rafe’s family, and Miller the bully. First, operation R.A.F.E. is a operation in which Rafe, the main character, has to break all the rules in the H.V.M.S. student rulebook.
13 Reasons Why is a drama series that is on Netflix, the main purpose of this show is to display how teen bullying can ultimately lead to suicide. In the show, Hannah Baker is a new student at Liberty High School. As we know being a new student can be difficult and challenging but for Hannah it was different, her bullying was not the same as everyone else’s. The biggest reason why this show was created was to show everyone that all of those “little things” people do can add up and make people turn to the breaking point.
In the book 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher, Clay experiences realistic events that can happen to anyone. What happened to Clay was a girl, Bethany, in his school committed suicide, and she sent a box of 13 tapes to 13 people and Clay was one of the receivers. She said if you received the tapes you are one of the reasons why I committed suicide and one of the tapes will be about you. Imagine having to listen to tapes of a girl who commited suicide just recently. Hearing her voice, not only brings confusion, but triggers memories. In the novel, Thirteen Reasons Why, by Jay Asher, a girl, Hannah Baker, purposefully overdoses on pills and creates seven double-sided cassette tapes with thirteen reasons behind her suicide. A fellow-student, Clay, receives the tapes tenth. With no recollection of why he should be on them, he continues.
Hannah Baker Hannah Baker is a Teenager who killed herself and left behind Tapes which contain the reasons why she committed suicide. She then sends the Tapes to the first person on her List of people who she blames for killing herself, with instructions on what to do while and after listening to her Tapes. Hannah is portrayed as a very intelligent and determined person, alone the fact that she sends instructions with her Tapes and threatens with making them public if these instructions are not followed shows how intelligent she is.
In the story, the students at Hannah’s high school did not know their actions could lead to her suicide. They would sexually harass her because of her body, called her a “sl*t,” invaded her privacy, and so forth. But if they changed their actions towards Hannah, she could've still stayed alive to this day. Clay wanted to talk her into staying alive, but he got nervous, and couldn't do it, because he had a crush on her until she died. When Hannah was still alive, she was slowly giving up hope.
Her discovery of cruel taunts, betrayal, humiliation and isolation by not only her peers, but also her parents, became an overwhelming situation and ultimately lead to her own suicide. Hannah leaves behind 13 recorded tapes for 13 different people, who she believes, each contributed in some way to her taking her life. This in turn takes each tape recipient, on their own journey of discovery. Thirteen Reasons Why is a story of emotional, intellectual and self-discovery.
There have also been some complaints on how it shows what Hannah went through. Hannah was a high school girl who committed suicide and saw many things someone should never see as a teenager. She wrote 14 tapes about why she committed suicide and every tape talked about someone new. Those tapes had some inappropriate behaviors shown like rape, the steps Hannah took to committing suicide and people using drugs and alcohol. For these reasons, 13 Reasons Why has scenes that are inappropriate for the viewers and should be watched with caution.
Suicide and Self-harm is one of the main leading causes in youth deaths in today 's society. The thought of ending his or her life is one of the thoughts developing in teenagers’ minds around the globe. There are many reasons to why a person will put their life at risk, such as stress, depression, loss of a loved one, or being bullied. Constant use of drugs or alcohol is also another leading cause to a person to have suicidal thoughts/actions. Suicide is not the way to go, there are plenty of other options to overcome suicidal thoughts or actions.
