I agree, Jennifer,that the most important component of a school counselor is to gain the trust of students and maintain a student’s confidentiality. This is one of the challenges Frosechle and Crews state in their article An Ethics Challenge for School Counselor. The authors of the text also discuss an answer to this ethical dilemma. They suggest “explaining the limits of student confidentiality at the beginning of each counseling session and also that include parent/counselor discussions regarding the importance of student confidentiality occur such that trust is facilitated between stakeholders (Froeschle & Crews, 2010).”

Throughout the all of the articles and the textbook was a call for a professional to perform ongoing self-assessment.
