The most dominant theme throughout this song is body image. Also during our teenage years is when most women struggle with this idea that we have to look and act a certain way to be wanted and liked in society. “You don’t have to change a thing, the world should change it’s heart” that line is repeated a lot in this song. In today’s society teenagers but teenage girls especially are always trying to change who they are, it’s hard for them to accept their identity she is saying that you don’t have to change anything about yourself, it’s the world, it’s society they should stop judging and making us feel like we need to be this “ideal of a perfect person”. Another positive line is “you should know you’re beautiful just they way you are”. No matter who judges you or does not like you for who you are, you, yourself should know that you’re beautiful just how you are. Even though this song is sad, there’s so much positivity that comes out of it, within the text she states sad things, but at the end of each stanza you get a positive message. Lastly “no scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful” This is one of my favorite lyrics, I see stars as bright and unique and different but still beautiful, and if you have watched the music video to this song you would see a variety of different beautiful people we are all stars and this makes us beautiful. Alessia really makes sure as the audience that we see the beauty, that we hear what she is really saying.
