If I were principal of a new school, I would begin by meeting with each individual person that is affiliated with the school. I would listen, take notes, ask questions, and begin to build relationships with the people I will be working with on a daily basis. Meeting with the school improvement team would be the next step. Analyzing the TWCS as well as student data would be needed in order to come to consensus on what the goals will be for the new school year. When teachers are part of the process of creating goals, he/she takes more ownership of those goals. As principal, creating a “we” mentality is pivotal in developing a collaborative environment where everyone takes responsibility to both failures and successes. As principal, I will ensure that the mission statement is a daily guide for action. Start with and end with the mission statement during morning and afternoon announcements, will convey to the others the urgency and importance of the mission. Parents need to know what is expected of them in order to support the vision of the school. Students need to have high expectations set in order for him/her to reach their full potential. All stakeholders need to be aware of why your school is a great place to work so they can convey that same message to the community.
