In the making of an effective and efficient team in a workplace, there are many important components that are involved. With every member’s that are involved, it takes the cooperation and effective communication between them. This essay will aim to go over what went on with the interactions between the members of the group at West Coast Transit Case (WCT), in which will be reviewed to resolve the order of the group. The reviewing of this essay is going to include what makes an effective team, Tuckman’s five stages of group formation, behavioral roles, what makes an effective communication, conflicts, the maintenance/dysfunctional activities, and the motivation issues and theories.

The use of the direct conflict management of accommodation should be used by Denson to start out with first. Accommodation “involves playing down differences and find in areas of agreement” (Schermerhorn, 2016). Using this first will help with accommodating each of the members with their concerns. It will help with Katarina Tanney to be able to make it to her sessions with her family in counseling if she is able to leave work on time. However, if the situation is still not resolved, then an indirect conflict management approach by using the upward referral would be another way to handle the situation. The “upward communication keeps higher levels informed about what lower-level workers are doing and experiencing in their jobs” (Schermerhorn, 2016). If the group is to run smoothly, then all of these are important, but clarifying what is being said in every discussion that the groups are having and to take notes should be encouraged the most. By taking this step more seriously could help minimize any miscommunication that could occur, and to solidify what has been agreed upon the members in the group. The “maintenance activities support the social and interpersonal relationships among team members. They help a team stay intact and healthy as an ongoing and well-functioning social system” (Schermerhorn, 2016). Inviting every member of the group to participate is the most important maintenance activity that would be best to be encouraged in a group. The members of the team would become more involved with the project because this will help create a sense of cohesiveness among the team. The members of the team will also feel that their opinion matters and is being heard, and as well as letting them have multiple perspectives in the discussion on a topic.
