Tandy's IGA of Rising Sun was founded in 1973 by a man named Pete Tandy. It was his second IGA store run by Mr. Tandy preceded by the Aurora store. Tandy's has sit in the heart of Rising Sun for 44 years and has flourished ever since. The service is unbeatable, they make you feel good because they make it seem like they want you to be there. The prices are fair. You honestly could probably find a better deal at somewhere like Walmart or Kroger but who doesn’t want to help out a local business, and plus once you add up the amount of gas you spend driving to a Walmart, you don’t save very much. Tandy's carries all the big name brands that you could expect at a grocery store or even a supermarket. Tandy's has the best service one could ask for. After the death of Pete Tandy, sometime around the turn of the century, Terry Black purchased the store and you honestly could not ask for a nicer guy. The other day I witnessed an elderly women walk out of the store with a cart full of grocery. As I was about to help the women, Terry come from behind and helps the lady get all her groceries to her car. Not many people know this but Tandy's has a distributor by the name of SuperVal and they dictate all the prices of items in the store. Terry Black controls some of it but most pricing is handled by the distributor. When I speak with Matthew about prices he always tell me the same thing, "Are you going to spend money on gas to drive all the way to Walmart or are you going to spend a few more dollars to come here and help out the local business."
