My whole life I have been surrounded by a network of people who have appreciated the power of education. Whether it was my teachers at school who inspired me to learn through their passion or my family who encouraged me to always try my best, and it’s their influence that helped me discover my own passion. I have learned the importance of support dedication and passion. I believe that these attributes are what effective teachers posses and what I personally feel I am committed to as a learner and future educator.

As a teacher there are going to be so many types of students walking through the classroom doors everyday, some will be ready to listen and learn, other won’t be as eager. Either way, it is the teacher’s job to ensure everyone learns. My B.C. First Nations teacher is a person who exemplifies this in all that she does. She always makes herself available to help students not just for schoolwork but also in other areas of their life. She is consistent in her effort to help her students succeed without easily giving up. I believe I have shared this same dedication through my time in school. This year I got the opportunity to take a peer-tutoring course in which I was able to help students in a math 8 class. There was one student in particular that was secluded from the rest. I noticed she did not really try to do any of the work or ask for help. I went and sat with her during the lessons and my presence got her to start to take note. From then on I would go over the notes with her again, show her different examples and answer any question she had. I made her a priority by checking in with her until she learned to ask for help her self. I did not want to let her give up on her
